Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
09.03.03 In Russian
Level of education Bachelor
Type of instruction Full-time
Duration 4 years
Programme description
- The programme is aimed at training graduates with fundamental knowledge of mathematical analysis, algebra, probability theory, mathematical statistics, programming, and machine learning. They also acquire the skills of practical application of this knowledge in various fields. A significant role in the programme is assigned to students’ participation in various real industrial and scientific projects. This enables them to: consolidate the knowledge, skills and competencies acquired; develop an understanding of the project life cycle in the field of artificial intelligence; and acquire the soft skills needed in the IT field. While training in the programme, students also master optimisation and parallel computing methods and study legal and ethical issues of artificial intelligence. This makes it possible for graduates of the programme to be more competitive in their future career
- The academic programme is suitable for those who plan to build a career and develop in information technology, artificial intelligence and data science. Graduates of the programme are highly skilled professionals and can work as performers, and as team, project, area or whole field leaders. This academic programme offers extensive infrastructure and resource opportunities to implement your start-up: from generating an idea to promoting the finished product
- If you enjoyed mathematics and informatics at school, like to think structurally, notice patterns in the objects around you, have a flair for analysing information, putting forward hypotheses and drawing conclusions, this programme is definitely for you

Career opportunities
The programme provides training for competitive experts in artificial intelligence and data science with fundamental knowledge of: mathematical and natural sciences; programming; and information technology. They are capable of using them to: solve applied problems of various complexity levels to meet the needs of industry, business and science, municipal and public administration; solve other public tasks; and create conditions for further development of such professionals.
Our advantages
- During their studies, students already have contact with representatives of science and industry, who are involved in data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence every day at their workplace and are willing to share their experiences
- A significant emphasis during training is placed on the practical application of knowledge and skills. From the second year of study onwards, students work on their own projects on real scientific and business problems. Students already gain production experience at the University and learn what they will need in future at their workplace
- Students have the opportunity to: receive increased academic scholarship; do salaried internships; prepare scientific publications; register their research results with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent); and participate in major scientific and industrial conferences, including those held abroad
- Graduates will be well positioned to qualify for high salaries as the labour market demand for experts in artificial intelligence is only growing today
- Students will develop their professional competences (hard skills) and their teamwork skills (soft skills), which are much-in-demand in the IT sphere today
- The programme has been developed as part of a grant from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and has gone through several stages of testing and adjustment, including by experts from the AI Alliance
- All other advantages of studying at one of Russia’s best universities — St Petersburg University — will also be available: active extracurricular life, a wide range of sports clubs, and a large number of scientific and business events.
